He was predeceased by: his parents, Minor Smyth and Hallie Vannoy Smyth; his siblings, Doris Remley, June Straight, Sonny Smyth and Curtis Smith; and his son-in-law John Brock.

He is survived by: his children, Pamela McCauley (Jay) of Grafton, Jennifer Smyth (Scott Eickleberry) of Grafton, Ronald L. Smyth, II (Erin) of Baltimore, MD, Dawn Brock of Morgantown and Bonnie C. Wynn (Scott) of Ogden, UT.
