He was predeceased by: his wife Kathleen Sanders; his parents, Barney Sanders and Emma Sanders; and his siblings, Lillie Mae Fortner and Howard Sanders.

He is survived by: his children, Sherry Handley, Beverly Sanders and Greg Sanders (Regina); his grandchildren, B. J. (Tracey) and Ashley Sanders; his great grandchildren, Savannah Handley-Watts (Kyle), Georgia and Macon Handley; and his sister Willa Faye Fry.
