He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Dotson and Lonia Zell Dotson (Roberts); and his former wife Shirley Dotson. He is survived by: his wife Mary M. Dotson of Matewan, WV; his children, Nona Slocum, Tammy Johnston, James Dotson and Tommy Elkins; and his siblings, Arnetta "Nettie" Hane (Nelson), Billy Ray Dotson and Larry D. Dotson (Carla Riser). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.
