He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Hess and Betty Jo Davis; his wife Irene Hess (Church); and his siblings, William Hershal Hess and Carolyn Sue Lott.
He is survived by: his daughter Gina Leigh Newsome (Mark) of Newtown, WV.; his grandchild Kiara Elizabeth Newsome; and his sisters, Teresa Lynn Lewis of Hillsville, VA and Judy Durham of Hillsville, VA.
