He was predeceased by: his parents, Claudette June Martin (Woods) and Melvin Claire Shafer; his brother Charles "Charlie" Shafer; and his former wife Dianna Shafer (Edwards). He is survived by: his wife Kimberly Shafer (Timmons); his daughters, Jessica Way (Rob) and Kassi Shafer (Howard); his stepson Curtis Bass (Brittany); his grandchildren, Tanner, Treyton, Bentley, Alianna, Savannah and Carson; and his siblings, Crawford "Crock" Shafer (Patti), Penny Shafer, Lisa Shafer Blackshire, Loretta Pauley (Keith) and Darcia Painter (Mark).

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Home (327 W King St, Martinsburg, WV 25401). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
