He was predeceased by: his parents, Buel Wayne and Hilda Virginia Hanes Summerfield; and his grandparents, Daniel, Edna Lamb Summerfield, Oscar and Vausie Meadows Hanes.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Thomas Summerfield of Buffalo; his daughters, Sharon Ann Summerfield-Shortridge (Dave) of Winfield, Melissa Dawn Martin (Dale) of Milton and Patricia Lynn Summerfield-Johnson (Chris) of Charleston; his grandchildren, Jessica, Ethan (Laura Shortridge), Hannah (Noah Martin) and Alexander (Olivia Johnson); his great grandchild Olivia Martin; and his brothers, Douglas Summerfield (Mary) of Arvada, Ronald Summerfield (Barbara) of Jacksonville and Donald Summerfield (Patricia) of Jacksonville.
