He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Samuel and Hulda Irvine Sharp Friel; his brothers, Eugene Arthur Friel, Elmer Charles Friel and Everett Wayne Friel; his grandson Alex Friel Drake; and his niece Sandra Kay Gibson Ackerman.
He is survived by: his wife Gatha Lena Gibson Friel; his daughters, Kimberly Lynn Friel Drake (Rory) of Matthews and Donna Erna Simmons (Bob) of Quinton, Virginia; his grandchildren, Ian Everett Drake of Marlinton, Kylie Gatha Drake of Matthews, Ginna Renee Simmons and Ashley Lynn Simmons of Quinton; and his sisters, Eleanor "Betsy" Mears of Leicester and Evilene Beverage of Marlinton.
