He was predeceased by: his parents, George O. Hayes and Lillie Hayes (Efaw); and his sister Ethel M. Pounds. He is survived by: his wife Linda Jean Hayes (McFerren); his children, Cathy Lynn Matula, Joseph A. Hayes Jr. (Barb), Michael Hayes (Cristi) and Steven Hayes; his brothers, James W. Hayes (Joan) and George Ray Hayes (Carolyn); his stepdaughter Lisa Leach; and his grandchildren, Geremy Matula, Shawn Guarino, Ryker Guarino, Jodi Hayes, Natalie Hayes, Marissa Leach, Kayla Stevenson, Erica Stevenson and Jahmir Stevenson. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.
