It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Gary D. Sumpter of Madison, West Virginia, who passed away on April 20, 2022, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his father Nye Sumpter; his wife Esma Wilson; his son-in-law Mike Adkins; and his siblings, Betty Dunn, Patty Dobbins, Shirley Lindsay, Dotty Ramsey and Sterling Sumpter.
He is survived by: his children, Donna Adkins-Woods (Gray) of Danville and Mark Edward Sumpter (Kim) of Milton; his siblings, Janita Hawkins of Painesville, Linda Sanders of Canvas and Mike Sumpter (Carol) of Birmingham, Alabama; his siblings-in-law, Helen White of Malabar, FL, Juanita Boggs, Walter Dunn of Steubenville, OH, Arthur Ramsey and Ashland of Ohio; his grandchildren, Hunter Sumpter (Lindsay), Andrew Adkins and Maggie Clyburn (Dalton); his great grandchildren, Parker and Kade Clyburn; and his daughter-in-law Sherry Lewis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gary D. Sumpter Educational Scholarship Fund, which will serve the students at Boone County Schools, 480 Raven Point Road, Danville, WV 25053.
