He was predeceased by: his parents, Van Buren and Minnie "Hodge" Jarrell; his wife Shirley A. Jarrell; and his children, James Kenneth Jarrell Jr. and Tina Marie Gadomski.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, David Davis (Chanda Of Mabscott), Kessa B Davis of Beckley, Hannah Gadomski of Oak Hill, Cassie Lilly of Lewisburg and Tiffney Johnson of Beckley; his sister-in-law Doris Kincaid; and his friends, Carolyn Davis, Alisa Bolt, Kristen Davis, Bryan Bolt, Caitlyn Cozart, Justin Axley, Gary, Lori Clay and Phebe Mills.
