With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Michael J. Gillispie of Lumberport, West Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 14, 2025 at the age of 68. He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett "George" Gillispie and Mildred "Millie" Creak; his sister Darla "Renee" Elder; his grandparents, Laura "Icie" West and Arch Creak (Hazel); and his parents-in-law, Fay Meadows and Chuck Layton.
He is survived by: his wife Bettie Sue Gillispie; his children, Melissa Elder (Eric) of Lumberport and Jon-Michael Gillispie (Stephen May) of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Austin Elder (Myla Milano) and Adriana Nichole Elder; his sisters, Barbara Kyer and Brenda Carpenter (Lonnie); his brother-in-law Chuck Layton (Carol); and his stepmother-in-law Carnis Layton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Harmer Funeral Home (300 Pike St, Shinnston, WV 26431). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location.
