He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse M. Carter and Mary Elizabeth Carr Carter; his former wife Phyllis Ann Gerrard Carter; his son Jerry Wayne Carter; and his son-in-law David Warner.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Morris Carter; his daughters, Joyce Winning (John) of Spartanburg, SC and Brenda Davis (Scott) of Lost Creek; his grandchildren, Tonya Shriver, Julie Faulkner (Jason) and Jessie Kimball (Josh); his great grandchildren, Kaylee Warner, Madison Kimball, Mackenzie Kimball and Emily Shriver; his close friends, Max Hinerman (Loretta) and Don Messenger (Nancy); and also Big Murray.
