He was predeceased by: his parents, Ulysses G. Bowery and Pearl Lively Bowery; and his aunt Cora Chandler. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Fortner Bowery; his children, Kimberly Anne Bowery Carlton of Charleston and Joseph E. Bowery II (Connie) of South Charleston; his grandchildren, Joey Bowery, Matt Bowery, Sarah Newhouse (Jarred) and John Carlton; and his great grandchildren, Brianna Bowery and Jaxson Newhouse. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
