He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wade Bell and Eleanor Bell; his wife Ann Tate; his children, Kinsey Mitchell (Alex) and John Wade Bell IV (Grecia); his grandchildren, Will, Ben, Catherine, Andrew Mitchell and Olivia Bell; his siblings, Linda Ogburn (Charlie), Anne Carper (Kent), Cam Bell (Linda) and Andy Bell; and his sister-in-law Kathleen Tate (Gene). He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in his name to St. James Episcopal Church or the North House Museum in Lewisburg.
