He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herbert Melvin Carnell, II and Regina Katherine Hansel (Reeves); his stepfather Donald Keith Hansel, Sr.; his close friend Joanne Martin; his sons, Brent A. Carnell and Matt A. Carnell; his siblings, Cathi (Clay), Greg, Troy (Kelly), Harry (Tracey), Eric (Shawnee), Tori (Mike) and Keith (Mike); his stepdaughter Jessica; his grandson Wyatt; and his close friends, Nathan Youngblood and Aden Grove. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
