He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Clyde and Lottie Cordellia Southall Kerns; his wife Icie Kerns; his siblings, Hansford Kerns, Clyde Kerns, Emzy Kerns, Richard Kerns, Otho Kerns, Denver Kerns, Eurada Kerns, Frances Kerns, Izetta Kerns and Sue Ellen Kerns; and his grandson Jerry Dale Kerns II.

He is survived by: his children, Jerry Dale Kerns (Mary), Terry Kerns and Hazel Kerns; and his sisters, Nellie Mae Kerns Ingram and Sherry Juanita Kerns Sheppard. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
