We are sad to announce that on October 2, 2022, at the age of 79, John Smith Ludlow Gaines (Kearneysville, West Virginia) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John Leroy Gaines and Katheryn Elizabeth Hitt Gaines. He is survived by: his wife Valerie Marie Straw Gaines; his children, Clay Davidson of Harpers Ferry and Jamie Rose (Jeff) of Purcellville, Virginia; his stepdaughter Jessica Bogdanovic of Rockville, Maryland; his grandchildren, Brooklynn, Cheyenne and JoJo Rose; and his brother David Gaines of Harpers Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
