He is survived by: his parent Martha Elizabeth Brinkley Posey; his children, Russell Posey II Regina Wilkins (Carol), Vincent Posey (Beverly) and Kristina Hinzman (Harvey); his grandchildren, Ross Hinzman Adam (Jason), Ayla, Vincent, Carla Posey, Courtney Rost and Matthew Rost; his stepgrandchildren, Elliott Wilkins and Rhett Wilkins; his stepgreat-grandchild Hadley Boring; and his sibling Oliver "Peck" Posey of Roanoke. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
