Mary was a graduate of St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1952 to 1954 and was discharged by reason of marriage to her husband in 1954.
As a wife of a career Marine who was frequently deployed, she spent a career as a homemaker and, as an “empty nester,” as a volunteer for many years at a senior residence in Burke, Virginia, and as a volunteer at the VA facility in Martinsburg.
She was loved and cherished by many people including : her late parents, Henry P. Altendahl and Anna M. Altendahl of New Munich, Minnesota.; her husband retired Marine Capt. Cyril Kammeier and her children, Deborah A. Lee, Keith and John Kammeier.
