It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Lou Lakin of Huntington, West Virginia, born in Fort Gay, West Virginia, who passed away on March 17, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Wyonidas "Wye" Wellman and Armella "Mellie" Peck Wellman; her former husband Larry Pelfrey (Lawrence Lakin); her stepson Lieutenant Colonel Michael Lakin of Charleston, WV; her siblings, Dorothy Perry of Orlando, FL, Betty Jean Higginbotham of Astor, FL, Margaret Michael of Huntington and Joe Wellman of Fort Gay; and her son Larry M. Pelfrey of Huntington.

She is survived by: her daughter Jennifer Lynn Kearns (John) of Oak Hill, VA; her daughter-in-law Teresa Pelfrey of Huntington; her stepchildren, Patti Lakin Smith (Ted) of Huntington and Rick Lakin (Kaye) of Ashland, KY; her grandchildren, Andrew Lakin of Lexington, KY, Andrew Pelfrey (Katie) of Charlotte, NC, Jack Kearns (Sarah) of Alexandria, VA, Tyler Pelfrey of Columbus, OH, Bradley Kearns of Ft. Novosel, AL, Caroline Kearns of Oak Hill, VA and Kathryn Lakin of Boston, MA; and her great grandchildren, Leo Pelfrey and Briar Pelfrey of Charlotte, NC..
