He was predeceased by: his parents, John Slater and Olive Belle Shaffer Cross; his brother Matt Slater; and his parents-in-law, Donnie and Eleanor Riggs.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Jean Riggs Slater; his sons, James Timothy Slater of Mannington, Johnny Lee Slater of Mannington and Jeffrey Scott Slater of Fairmont; his grandchildren, Julianna, A. J. Candia, Madison Marie, Blake Anthony, Tanner Scott, Owen Slater, Kai Johns and McKinzie Rose Barker; his great grandchild Kimmie Barker; and his siblings, Connie, Cathy, Cindy, Terry, Toinetta, John, Danny and Mark. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
