She is survived by: her parents, Harry Lee and Cornelia Alderson Smith; her spouse Thomas Joseph McCarthy Jr. of Hinton; her daughters-in-law, Thomas Joseph McCarthy III, Sherry of Lakeland, Harry Smith McCarthy and Laurie of Yorktown; her grandchildren, Anne Megan McCarthy (Jeff Dewey) of San Francisco, Mary Rachel McCarthy (James Rudd) of Richmond, Thomas Patrick McCarthy (Emily) of Fairfax and Jay Philip McCarthy (Kristin) of Marina; her great grandchildren, Flora Alderson Dewey of San Francisco, Iris Rudd, Oscar Rudd of Richmond and Dean Thomas McCarthy of Fairfax; her friend Jan McCarthy of Washington; her nieces, Martha Krepps, Julia Musto and Anne Powell; and also Doug Powell of Newport News, VA..
