He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Hayes and Vella B. Hayes (Dyke); and his siblings, Robert Lee Hayes, Dana George Hayes, Thomas Eugene Hayes, James David Hayes, Betty Sue Reynolds, Nancy Jane Laurentz and Brenda Lou Bowen.

He is survived by: his children, Lynette Hayes (Jardine), Rachel Hayes and Jason Hayes; and his brother Michael W. Hayes. He is also survived by three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
