He was predeceased by: his parents, Dave Akers and Nessell Akers of Hewett, WV.; his brothers, Earl, Phillip and Richard; and his great grandchild Luke.
He is survived by: his wife Genevieve; his children, Curtis Joe Akers (Libby) of Burlington, NC, Glen Akers (Dawn) of Madison, Chad Akers (Kelli) of Lake, Gina Roblee (Dan) of Saint Albans and Paula Gertz (Kevin) of Hewett; and his siblings, Sharol Akers of Carpentersville, Leon Akers of North Lake, Patsy Duffey of Danville, WV and Peggy Bullen of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
