He was predeceased by: his mother Mollie Murphy; his brothers, Lester, Willis "Burl" and Dale Murphy; and his son-in-law Tom Stark.
He is survived by: his wife Noreta Chadock Murphy; his children, Vickie Stark of Ravenswood, WV, Rickie Murphy (Charlotte) of Macfarlan, WV, Randall Murphy (Tracy) of Elizabeth, WV and Joseph Murphy (Rose) of Harrisville, WV; and his grandchildren, Kerry Murphy (Mandy), Terry Murphy, Nathan Stark (Andrea), Rebecca Wright (Matt), Cody Murphy, Darlene Cox (Will) and Mariah Gillespie (Cory). He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
