He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert M. Patterson Sr. and Jamie B. Grow Patterson; and his siblings, Robert M. "PeeWee" Patterson, Annabelle Patterson Satterfield, Mary Jo Patterson Slaton, Frances Patterson Gamsjager, Betty Patterson and Helen Patterson.
He is survived by: his son Charles A. Patterson Jr. (Diana).
