He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Stephens and Hazel Stephens. He is survived by: his wife Beverley (Blair) of Sherrard; his children, Chelsey of Glen Dale, John Mark Jr. of Glen Dale and Joseph of Glen Dale; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Bonar (Kyle), Jenna Vitunic (Brian), Emily Moehling (Tanner), Olivia Johnson (Brandon), Grace Holmes (Matt), John Mark III and Ellery; his great grandchildren, Klayton, Emersyn and Leo; his brothers, Jim Stephens (Alice) of Moundsville and Jerry Stephens (Debbie) of Sherrard; and his pet Carmella.
