He was predeceased by: his father Lanty Samples; his son Allan Wayne Samples; his former wives, Sharon Adkins Samples and Maxine Friend Arnold Samples; his brother Nolan Samples; his stepgrandson John Forbush; his stepdaughter Maria Arnold; and his siblings-in-law, Agnes Samples and Neil Hall.
He is survived by: his sons, Rozanne and David Lee Samples, Jr. (Rozanne); his grandson Dustin Michael Samples (Donna) of John's Island; his wife Ruth Ann Furby Samples of Gassaway; his stepgrandson William Forbush (Trinity Bancroft); his stepdaughter Shelly Stewart; his stepgrandchildren, Ashley James (Rob) and Jay Brinson (Maddy); his siblings, Mick (Donna), Charles (Joyce), Keith (Sue), Ron Samples, Lorena Hall, Denise Lemon (Roy) and Lisa Ware (Rusty); his stepson David Arnold; his stepgranddaughter Adrienne; his stepson Daniel Arnold (Tammy); his stepgrandchildren, Seth and Danielle; his stepdaughter Marcy Arnold Lane; his stepgrandchildren, Nikki, Kayla, Caleb and Ryan; and his sister-in-law Penny Samples. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
