He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy Short and Ruth Elmore Short; and his daughter Carla Kay Mercado. He is survived by: his children, David Short (Melisa) of Middletown, VA and Angela Wright (Bill) of Fairmont; his siblings, Terry Short (Shirley), Mary Susan Carr, Janette McCourt and Oneda Schiefer (Frank); his grandchildren, Mackenzie Barrett (Dylan), Dylan Short, Graci Short, James Wright (Heather), Tayler Wright, Amanda Merullo, Sierra Anderson, Gregory Mercado and Nicholas Mercado; and his great grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, Sawyer Wright and Conway Barrett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
