He was predeceased by: his siblings, Alexander Paton, Ethel Lease, Ameda Combs, Mary Jane Awot, William Paton, James Patton and Betty Simpson; his wife Mary; and his granddaughter Brittany Marie Paton.

He is survived by: his parents, John W. Paton and Viola Paton (Smiley); his children, Mary Virginia Fazenbaker (Gary), Hugh "Fred" Jr (Jeana) of Westernport and Charles (Valerie) of Parkton, MD.; and his grandchildren, Ryan Fazenbaker, Joshua Fazenbaker (Stacy), Carrie, Thierry, Derek Paton (Karina), Casey, Charles "Alex" and Christopher Paton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Potomac Fire Company, or Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, Westernport.
