He was predeceased by: his parents, James McKinney and Freda Phillips McKinney; his son John "Mike" McKinney; his great grandchild Liam Thurmond; and his siblings, Patty Watkins, Rebecca Watkins (Edgar), Charles McKinney (Martha) and William McKinney.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann McKinney; his children, Joseph McKinney (Robyn), Melissa Cutrone (Rudy), Thomas McKinney and Robert McKinney (Angie); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Mary Kaitlyn McKinney, Chandler Cutrone, Angela Johnson (David), Bryce, Alexis McKinney, Jordan Fluharty (Dawson), Riley and Amber McKinney; his great grandchildren, Talon McKinney and Lyla Mae Thurmond; his brother James (Connie); his sister-in-law Jean McKinney; and his daughter-in-law Kelley Armstrong. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
