He was predeceased by: his parents, Hattie Hicks Thompson and Benjamin Edward Thompson; his wife Virginia Lee Baker Thompson; his sons, Kenneth Brooks Thompson and Brian Keith Thompson; his siblings, Harold Thompson, James Thompson, Helen Thompson, Edsel Vance, Wilma Bunner VanGilder, Margie McCray Sturm and Doris Shaffer; his nephews, Arthur Vance and Larry McCray; and his niece Laura Vance Coulson.
He is survived by: his son Roger Lee Thompson (Diana) of Fairmont, WV; his daughters-in-law, Karen Thompson and Jeanette Thompson; and his nieces and nephews, Charles M. Bunner (Mary), Benjamin "Ed" Bunner, David Shaffer, Deloris Bunner Suppa (Bob), Catherine Shaffer Turner (Jim), Debbie Thompson Stottlemire (Ron) and Patricia Thompson (Jim Carreiro).
