He was predeceased by: his stepson Bruce Johnstone; his father-in-law William Sturm; his niece Laura Marlowe; and his sisters-in-law, Linda Smith and Suzanne Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Linda K. Sturm Smith; his siblings, Leslie Frank (James), Margaret Bracket (Jeff), Judy Fragoso (Ralph), Don Smith (Susan) and Larry Smith; his mother-in-law Helen Jean Sturm of Swisher Hill; his siblings-in-law, Brenda Vandetta (Frank) of Monongah and Bill Sturm (Susan) of Florida; his nephew Frankie Vandetta (Stephanie) of Monongah; and his pet Zoey.
