He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Dotson and Eva Jeanette Knopp Nichols; his wife Phyllis Dotson; and his siblings, Joann Carpenter, Opie Leon Huffman and Jack Nichols.

He is survived by: his daughters, Cathy Elmore (Lee), Kimberly Tinsley (Mike) and Lisa Legg (Brian); his brothers, Paul and Jerry Nichols; and his grandchildren, Matt Tallman (Mandana), Robbie Elmore (Julia), Hollie Neely (Mark), Jacob Wilson (Crista), Ben Woodson (Annika) and Chris Woodson. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
