He was predeceased by: his wife Ellen Lynn Stewart; his parents, Howard Stewart and Glenda Stewart; and his sister Alice Marie Stewart Riggs. He is survived by: his sons, Matthew Stewart (Carolyn) and Joseph Stewart; his siblings, Robert Stewart (Camilla) and Lynn Arnold (Brandon); his grandchildren, James, Cara, Joseph, Jeremiah and Mattison; his stepmother Sherry Stewart; and his mother-in-law Velma Riggs. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, nephew and several nieces.
