He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Whittington and Iva Whittington; his son Michael R. Whittington II; and his brother Thomas. He is survived by: his pet Buddy; his wife Karen Joan Whittington; his daughter Brandy N. Whittington of Charleston, SC; his stepchildren, Wesley Velasco (Jessica) of Tampa, FL and Christina Montague (Gino) of Justin, TX; his siblings, Larry A. Whittington of Eleanor, Gary W. Whittington, Rodger D. Whittington, Ellen L. Osborne and Marlyn K. Evers of Teays Valley; his grandchildren, Alex Whittington, Cameron Whittington, Carl Montague, Alexis Roderick, Keelie Montague, Gabriele Valasco and Kayla Valasco; and his great grandchild Brently Roderick.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Roark-Sullivan Veterans Service Center, 1015 Smith Street, Charleston, WV 25301.
