He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar "Scrub" and Lavelle Sherman (Phillips); his son Phil Jr. Sherman; and his brother Steve Sherman. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sherman (Helmick); his siblings, Dave Sherman (Lorraine) and Rebecca Bozic (Dennis); and his nephews, Mark, Stephen, John, Scott Sherman and Dylan Bozic.
