He was predeceased by: his parents, Wiley Merritt and Lula Merritt; and his sisters, Loretta Watson, Lorene Richardson and Wanda Richardson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia (David) and Pricilla; his stepchildren, Curtis Moore and Tina Adkins; his grandchildren, Trista of Sarah, J. T. and Isabella; his great grandchildren, Alivia and Caleb; his granddaughter Sophia; and his siblings, Nobel Merritt (Shelby), Frances Eplin and Randell Merritt (Margaret). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
