He was predeceased by: his former wife Velma; his mother Faustina; his siblings, Charles and Philomena; and his grandson Timothy Steele.

He is survived by: his son Douglas Tench Jr.; his wife Jenean; his children, Tonia (Miles), Tara (Kenneth), Kammie (Torie) of Douglas, DJ (Nanami) of Lewis, Skip (Angie) of Robert, Nate and Jayla; his grandchildren, Brandi, Michael (Pat), Stephani (Ivan), Deaira, Jabari of Micah, LJ and Lucas; his great grandchildren, Asia, Isaiah, Alysha of Lyric, MJ, Julius and Jai; his friend Cornelius Jones; and his grandfather Wayne Casey.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the West Virginia State University Foundation for the Douglas Tench, Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
