He was predeceased by: his parents, Casey Nile Dempsey and Ida Irene Dempsey; his sister Rosie Dempsey; his grandparents, James Robertson and Esther Slater; and his parents-in-law, Howard Gore and Mary Jane Gore.

He is survived by: his wife Virginia Dempsey; his children, Sheffy Turner, Debbie Rockel (Larry), Elaine Justice (Jeff), Michael Dempsey (Susan), David Dempsey (Claudia) and Billy Kirk (Ladonna); his sister Melinda Binder; his niece Lisa Phillips; and his nephew Brad Binder. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Freeman Funeral Home, Inc. (220 Main St, Chapmanville, WV 25508). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
