He was predeceased by: his parents, William Allen and Ruth Faye Barker Elkins; and his significant other Meredith Jean Dotson Elkins. He is survived by: his son J. D. Elkins II (Valerie Ann Craddock); and his grandsons, William Andrew of Rock Creek and Nicklaus Edward of Rock Creek. He is also survived by cousins, in-laws, and friends.
