He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry G. Shaffer and Brookie Turley Shaffer; his wife Mary Lee Kenney Shaffer; his siblings, Catherine Blair, Jane Johnson, Margaret Frobase and Winfield T. Shaffer; and his granddaughter Margaret Palmer Shaffer.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Gilpin (Tom) of Huntington, Ann Bunch (Jim) of Houston and Harry G. "Chip" Shaffer, III (Sarah) of Madison, W. V; his grandchild Jacob Bunch (April) of Houston; his great grandchild Jackson; his grandchild David Bunch (Shannon) of Chapel Hill, N. C.; his great grandchildren, Sophia and Lilly; his grandchild Katherine Gilpin Skahen (Martin) of Syracuse, N. Y.; his great grandchildren, Caroline and Charles; his grandchildren, Andrew Gilpin (Allison Bean) of New York, N. Y. and Ann Gilpin Lentell (Ryan) of Natick; his great grandchildren, Thomas and James; and his grandchildren, Harry G. "Gus" Shaffer, IV of Morgantown, Carl Shaffer (Lauren Gerchufsky) of Charleston and William Palmer Shaffer of Knoxville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
