He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Norman Shaffer and Donna Gaile Mathes Shaffer; and his sister Faye Davis. He is survived by: his wife Frances Margaret Bolyard; his sons, Jeffrey Scott Shaffer (Stephanie Biggs) of Elkins and Brian Thomas of East Dailey; his grandchildren, Aiden Jeffrey Shaffer and Avery Faith Shaffer; and his siblings, Michael Shaffer (Susan), Candice Salem-Smallwood and Jennifer Hicks.
