He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Painter and Opal Madge Watson Painter; and his sister Reba Blankenship. He is survived by: his wife Nina; his daughters, Martha Eloise "Marty" Painter of Culloden and Brenda Denise Haye (Bryan) of Jacksonville, FL; his grandsons, Bryce Dolan Haye of Jacksonville and Brandon Keith Haye (Katie) of Jacksonville; and his sister Reta Turley (Herman) of Boca Raton, FL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
