He was predeceased by: his son James H. Crane; his parents, James A. Crane and Winona McClung Crane; and his sister Vivian Crane. He is survived by: his wife Hilda Shepherd Crane; his daughter Brenda Brooks (Hubert); his grandchildren, Scott Brooks, Melissa Brooks and Stephanie Kunin (Wallace); and his great grandchildren, Hannah Brooks and Jared Brooks.
