He was predeceased by: his parents, William G. McCartney and Dorothy Forinash McCartney. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Joyce Gooding; his children, Jason McCartney of Tucker County, WV and Molly Jo Abromavage (Mark) of Lorton, VA; his grandchildren, Brandon McCartney of Abbott, WV, Zachary McCartney of Heaston Ridge, WV, Hannah McCartney of Heaston Ridge, Emma of Lorton and Ava Abromavage of Lorton; his great grandchildren, Landon Hyre of Buckhannon, Alexis Carrier-McCartney of Buckhannon, Savannah McCartney of Buckhannon and Lucah Hyre of Buckhannon; and his brother Delbert McCartney of Clarksburg, WV. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
