He was predeceased by: his parents, Exley Rice and Merle Butler Rice; and his siblings, Betty Coil and Mahlon Rice. He is survived by: his wife Frances DeLong Rice; his children, Jeffrey Rice (Kellye) of Franklin, TN, Lori Stephenson (Richard) of Wheeling, WV and Valerie McKnight (Bradley) of Brentwood, TN; his sister Audra Amos (David) of Knoxville, TN; and his grandchildren, Haley, Hunter (Hope Rice), Caroline, Bethany (Bailey Stephenson) and Taylor (Dylan McKnight).
