He was predeceased by: his parents, Velva Shafer and Emmett Shafer; and his brother Gary Shafer. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Pringle Fox of Hinton; his daughters, Cynthia Shafer of Charleston and Carla Hebert of Barboursville; his brother Lloyd Shafer of Charleston; his granddaughters, Emily Hess of Huntington and Summer Porter of Lewisburg; his sister-in-law Evelyn Shafer of Charleston; and his pet Pippie.
