Jerry Carter wrote a sympathy message

“Brother Wilson and Ms. Molly, I knew Ms. Shirley for a short time although she allowed me to feel like I had known her longer. Her warmth and “down to earth” personality drew you in. I remember preaching revival there a few years back and after church each night she would say Brother Jerry, “Do you need a snack to take back to the motel?” I would say, “Yes ma’am Mama Shirley.” She would fix it up and say, “Here it is I’ll see you tomorrow night for supper.” The community has lost a Jewel!”

Thresa Tucker wrote a sympathy message

“Bro. Wilson and family, we are praying for comfort and peace during this time of Mrs. Shirley's homegoing. We're glad she isn't suffering any longer, but we know that you, your family, and the church family will miss her presence and her prayers. We are thankful for the few times we were able to glean from her sweet spirit. May you all feel God's loving, tender kindness in the coming days. Bro. David and Mrs. Thresa Tucker and the congregation of White Plains Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, NC”
