He was predeceased by: his parents, Golden Slater and Lora Griffith Slater; his wife Geraldine Slater; his daughter Jackie Epling; and his sister Janet Slater.

He is survived by: his children, John Myers of Charleston, Paula "Shorty" Dorsey of Charleston, Ruthie Fort and Dorothy Myers. He is also survived by Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandchildren.
